A Few Facts About Alcohol Abuse

Did you know that alcohol consumption kills twice as many people each year as motor vehicle accidents?  And, many motor vehicle accidents are caused by alcohol.  More than 100,000 Americans die each year from
alcoholism (compared to 5,000 deaths over six years in the second Iraq war).  Alcohol and drug problems are the second most common mental disorder (6-7% of all adults), and more than 60% of admissions to emergency rooms are either directly or indirectly due to alcohol or drug usage, yet most hospital healthcare systems have NO treatment programs for addiction.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month – a great time to educate and raise awareness about alcohol and substance abuse.  Enterhealth encourages you, your family and your friends to stay safe, sober and aware this month and throughout the year.
